HOW TO GET INSIDE A CREATIVE MIND
INNOVATION DUBLIN 2011
If you haven’t heard about innovation Dublin 2011 which has been running since Oct 17th and doesn’t finish until the 18th November…..where have you been? Head in the sand or just too busy? Hopefully the later.
Well as part of the festival programme and in conjunction with Creative D & Block T, 3rd Dimension along with other creatives will be taking part in an exhibition that brings you on a journey through the minds and thought processes of those people shaping Dublin’s creative future. Taking place tomorrow (yes tomorrow November 3rd) at the Block T HQ in Haymarket, Smithfield, the exhibition will highlight the different approaches to creativity adopted by a wide range of artists and innovators along the creative journey – including the visual arts, crafts, digital media, film, fashion, photography and design worlds – with a view to dissecting and examining The Anatomy of Creativity.
The event is totally FREE (yes we know what caps mean in cyper language) and we would welcome everyone and anyone to come and visit. 3rd Dimension will be creating a dynamic virtual retail environment with their new Virtual Shopfronts while there will be lots of other amazing exhibitions to visit and discuss with their creators.
Creativity & Innovation are key to a successful new economy so make sure to come and say hello…you never know what you will learn and you can be sure you will BE INSPIRED.

REVAMP OF ICONIC ANDREWS LANE THEATRE
This is what the proposed new Andrews lane Theatre will look like when finished!. These were part of an overall package produced by 3rd Dimension for the planning application for the proposed revamp of the iconic theatre in Dublin City Centre. Until very recently planning permission was hanging in the balance, however following the redrawal of an appeal to the board and the modification to the building design, planning has since been approved. The development consists of a revamped ground floor foyer including a new restaurant and stand alone reatil unit along with increased office space over a number floors. Due to the proposed new height of the development our work involved the production of a number of verified views (photomontages) from different locations around the city to prove that the proposed structure would have no negative impact on the surrounding environment. It also involved the creation of a number of cutaway 3D floor plans (shown above) to illustrate the proposed usage of the floor space within the building.
“The revamp of Andrew’s Lane Theatre can finally go ahead following a decision last week to grant permission for new plans. The Dublin 2 theatre venue, which was opened by Maureen Potter 21 years ago, was bought for €9.25 million by a consortium headed by former Tesco executive Martin Garvin four years ago.
Planning permission was sought in 2008 to demolish the existing theatre and construct a seven-storey over-basement mixed-use scheme of almost 3,000 square metres. The plans included a new theatre at basement level, box office, offices, restaurant/cafe bar and wine bar. Permission was granted but Dublin City Council imposed 19 conditions and the owners appealed to An Bord Pleanala. The appeal was later withdrawn and new plans were submitted. The changes to the initial plans include the redesign of the ground floor theatre foyer, restaurant/cafe and retail unit to suit a single occupant, the redesign of the building to increase office floor space by reducing the floor height from slab to slab in offices, and the removal of a basement car park and lift access from Andrew’s Lane.” – The Post.ie
3D VISUALISATION OF THE WEEK
This week’s 3D Visualisation of the week is of a project in the heart of Dublin City Centre. The image on the left is a photomontage and we have shown the existing photo beside it. The project involved the production of a number of photomontages from both close range and long distance. The development itself is a proposed mixed use scheme that includes a restaurant, offices and a training cente. One of the issues we had with this particular photomontage was the perspective lines due to the wide angle lens that needed to be used for the close proximity to the site. We got it matching spot on in the end though. Unfortunately like many developments around the world it has been put on ice due to the economic climate.

FLOOD DAMAGE COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED

We thought it only apt that we highlight the work of Global Flood Solutions and their product the Big Bag System. From viewing some of the videos this morning on the web it is clear that this system or similar could be easily implemented in areas that were badly effected yesterday and last night. This type of flooding is not a one off and is happening every year throughout the country. Dublin was obviously worst effected yesterday but last year it was other parts of Ireland. It’s time for councils to take a good long hard look at the viable solutions.
This is an animation illustrating the deployment of the Big Bag Defence System that can be used in a variety of disaster situations such as Flooding, Oil Spills, Coastal Erosion, Noise Barrier, Cofferdam, Emergency Water Tank, Retaining Walls and Traffic Barrier
