Welcome to the new member of our team!

We would like to welcome Ciaran Dempsey to the design team at 3rd Dimension. Ciaran was chosen over a number of very high quality applicants and we wish him good luck. He has been thrown right in at the deep end with two projects from Florida but we have no doubt he will cope without any problems.

We would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to all those who applied for the position and unfortunately there can only be one winner at this time. Things are getting very busy so we reckon it’s only a matter of a short period of time before we are looking for someone else so make sure you keep an eye on our blog.

3D Apps!

We came across these neat apps for all those that have the favourite accessory of 2010 – The Iphone. I myself have still not succumbed to the pressure of buying one even though the new version looks far superior….Maybe only a matter of time though!

DART Underground- Will it evvvvvver happen?

We came across this today in paper and have to admit were very disappointed that we didn’t win the tender to visualise it….would have been a great project to work on!

We’re Back….and looking for a talented 3D Artist!

So we will admit that we took our eye off the blog over the past couple of months or so but needs must and to be honest its been a tough 2 years so when work exploded a short while ago it was all hands to the pump to get projects started and completed. We truly believe that the corner has been turned. We have just completed a number of large projects for Tesco Ireland (pics on our site soon) and have been commissioned to produce a large number of interior animations for a massive residential project in Abu Dhabi. We will be working with our clients Pelican Studios in England producing the interior animations of three large luxury homes which will represent nearly 1000 houses being built by a government back initiative. We have also been commissioned to work on two luxury 15,000+sq ft houses in Vero Beach in Florida (designed by Yeates Rainho Architects Florida) which will include a number of high quality exterior stills with the possibility of interiors to follow.

Both house projects come on the back of the development we just completed for Yeates Rainho – a 25,000sq ft house in Florida in a breath taking environment. Even if you are not a 3D fan you need to check out the aerial photomontages that we produced. The setting and environment is simply stunning. It is the only project that we have worked on that we have been requested to remove the rear garden lighting from the model……why……because of the sea turtles! which come up from the beach.

Combining the above projects with other ones that have been commissioned for here in Ireland we now urgently require a talented 3D Artist! Details will follow today or tomorrow but the poistion is for an immediate start….so get your portfolios in order and send them on.

What is Augmented Reality!

AugmentedYou have all probably heard of the term augmented reality. For those that are not familiar with it it comes in various guises….From searching the locations of Houses for sale by simply panning your phone across an area that you happen to be standing in to the coming to life of objects in the palm of your hand. We were recently sent a link to a site that we think explains it quite nicely….Augmented Reality - A picture paints a 1000 words. See for yourself.

PS We particularly like the Avatar and BMW examples – enjoy

Budgets Dictate!

MuseumWe love this short animation that integrates 3D and real life footage to produce a wonderful little movie about a new piece of architecture. We would love to have the opportunity to produce something like this….unfortunately budgets dictate!

BOXX Introduces New 24 Core renderBOXX!

BoxxAs Tim Allen from Home Imrovement would say…Urgh urgh urgh, mopre power!

The 24 core option features up to 50% more processing power than a quad core model without a 50% increase in price. Featuring a multi-processor (Intel® Xeon® Processor 5600 Series running at up to 3.33GHz) and networked architecture, a renderBOXX dedicated rendering system is specifically designed to deliver outstanding rendering performance for intensive 3D graphics and animation workflows.

More good news: despite the additional cores and improved performance of the 24 core renderBOXX, the density and energy requirements remain the same. To understand what this means for your render farm, think of it this way: if you rely on quad core processors in order to obtain the rendering power of 80 processing cores, you have to purchase five renderBOXX modules. With six core processor technology, you get 96 cores (an increase of 16) in only four renderBOXX modules!

With fewer modules, space and energy requirements actually decrease. In addition to better efficiency, the 24 core renderBOXX provides the ultimate performance for heavily threaded applications like V-Ray®, mental ray®, Autodesk® Showcase® and others.
